Frequently Asked Questions
Create a script in the library, give it a title, and write or paste your text. Choose Prompt to rehearse without the camera, or Record to film yourself with the script in view. Set a comfortable text size and scrolling speed before you start.
Tap the scrolling text to pause or resume it, and drag to move to another position in the script. During a recording session, pausing the script does not stop the camera recording.
Anything you write in square brackets is treated as a cue and highlighted in yellow as it scrolls past, so you can see a reminder coming without reading it out loud. Use them for direction notes such as [pause], [smile], or [look up].
Recording needs both. If you declined earlier, open your device’s Settings, find The Teleprompt, and enable camera and microphone access. Prompt mode works without using the camera at all, so you can still rehearse.
After stopping a recording you can preview it, then choose Keep to save it to Photos. Grant the add-only Photos permission when prompted. Share sends the recording to any destination you choose, and Retake starts the take over.
Yes. The Teleprompt supports horizontal and vertical text mirroring for beam splitters and mirrored setups, and you can reverse the scrolling direction when your hardware needs it. Mirroring is included with Pro.
Use the same Apple Account on both devices and make sure iCloud is available. Syncing can take time, especially right after a new installation or when connectivity is limited. The app also stores scripts locally when iCloud is unavailable, so nothing is lost while you wait.
The free version includes unlimited scripts, up to 5 imported documents, recording up to 1080p, and all of the prompting, pacing, cue, caption, folder, keyboard, and game controller tools. Pro is a one-time purchase that adds unlimited document imports, horizontal and vertical text mirroring, the Apple Watch remote, the browser remote, and 4K recording on supported devices. There is no subscription.
Open the Pro screen and select Restore Purchases while signed in to the Apple Account you used to buy it. Pro is a one-time non-consumable purchase, so it restores on your devices using that account.
4K requires Pro and a device and camera that support it. Available recording resolutions differ between the front and rear cameras and between device models, so a resolution may be offered on one camera and not the other.
Yes. Import from Files, Mail, or Notes as plain text, Rich Text, PDF, or Word. You can send a script back out as text or Rich Text, or back up your whole library to a single file and restore it on another device. The free version covers five imported documents; Pro removes that limit.
Yes. The Teleprompt generates an .srt subtitle file for any take. The timings come from your script and how fast it scrolled rather than from transcribing the audio, so they follow your delivery. Nothing is sent anywhere to produce them.
Yes. A Bluetooth keyboard, a presentation remote, or a foot pedal that sends arrow keys all work, and so does a connected game controller — all included free. Pro adds the Apple Watch app on your wrist and a browser remote you can open on a laptop on the same network.
No. Your scripts stay on your device and, when iCloud is available, in your own private iCloud database. Recordings are processed on your device and are never uploaded to us. There is no advertising or third-party tracking. See the The Teleprompt Privacy Policy for full details.
Use the contact form below and include your device model, iOS or iPadOS version, app version, and what you were doing when it happened. A screenshot helps. Please leave out private script text unless you specifically want to share it.
